Opportunities
Technologies related to image analysis and all the technology grouped under the term “Computer Vision” have been in development for years and are becoming increasingly accurate and accessible.
They work well, and since neural networks and GPUs became popular, they have become a very powerful tool for image analysis and decision-making.
If we now add generative AIs, there are very interesting combinations that can give rise to new products and services.
Where do we have images and data tied to businesses?
Let’s look at some examples based on Taniwa’s experience.
Images taken by satellites
There are more and more satellites in orbit and they are becoming more accurate and cheaper. This has meant that the number of images taken from space is increasing and the resolution of these images is getting better.
Did you know you can have your own satellite in orbit for less than 2 million euros? Your satellite and your control center, programming and image capture. A few months ago we visited the Spanish company Satlantis based in Bilbao with a very interesting business model and technology.
Images taken by drones
Another world where technology is advancing by leaps and bounds. When you need resolutions of a few centimeters, drones are the best option. You can also create 3-dimensional maps and perform volume and surface calculations.
For 10 thousand euros you can have a drone with a high-resolution camera with a base to leave on your land. At the base (with its weather station) the flight route is programmed and the drone takes off, flies and lands on its own.
Company images and videos for marketing
More and more companies need images and videos for their marketing campaigns. Having these “assets” well organized and labeled is essential to get the most out of them.
- Give me videos where the Minister of Agriculture appears in the field with our logo
- Give me photos from the last tourism fair in Madrid
- Give me videos from the last demonstration in Barcelona
Text documents
Invoices, dossiers, contracts, reports, emails, etc., may have graphic parts or may have text as an image (pdf, scanned, etc.).
Again, having these documents well labeled and organized can be essential to get the most out of them.
Technologies
If we apply AI techniques and image analysis to the data listed above, we can obtain very valuable information.
Examples of systems and questions they can already answer, today:
Object identification in images combining Computer Vision and AIs
- Tell me if this image is blurry, has too much cloud cover or doesn’t have enough resolution to analyze it.
- Tell me how many cars are in this image.
- Compare these two images and tell me if there are differences between them in terms of (amount of vegetation, amount of water, amount of buildings)
- Tell me if the hot spots in this image correspond to the inverters of the solar plant.
- Tell me if this image has an object that shouldn’t be there.
- Detect all the people in the video and label them with their name and the transcription of what they say.
- Tell me if this image corresponds to an invoice and give me the total price and VAT separately.
- Describe this image in text regarding the construction progress of the work.
Combining this visual power in the processing of images or videos with the understanding capabilities of generative AIs together with traditional systems for content indexing and search (like ElasticSearch) opens opportunities for those who:
- Know their business inside out.
- Care about their data and are hungry for external information that adds value.
- Have a clear vision of how they can improve their business with technology.
- Partner with travel companions who know about technology and business (taniwa, for example).
Innovation must be open and collaborative; you need to bring in gray matter from outside that adds value and new perspectives.
Let the air flow.
